How to I Rediscovered My Passion In Life

When I finished school, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. I knew that I wanted to work with people, and help them in some capacity. Being a sensitive empath, I was drawn to health-related courses. I ended up picking radiography, and only because I had a neighbour who worked in that area.

I never picked it because I was passionate about it. I literally just knew someone who worked in that field, and from what she said it sounded pretty cool.

Half way through my degree I knew that it wasn’t what I wanted to be doing with the rest of my life. I decided to consult a careers counsellor at my university to see what my options where to change degrees.

I was told I was better off to finish my degree, and then enrol in post graduate study. Ironically, I was looking to transfer into a business degree. I loved business studies at school, but I picked radiography over business because I knew I’d be a radiographer at the end of my studies, where as business was so… vast.

During my time at university, I found my love for health and fitness. I started going to a gym for the first time, and I was in love. This was something I was really passionate about, but I had a voice in my head saying that being a personal trainer wasn’t a ‘good job’.

I know exactly where I took that belief on from, and although they meant well, they really tainted my view for health and fitness. In hindsight, I would have been a wonderful PT, and I’d have loved to open my own gym or fitness centre.

So, I ignored my burning desire for fitness, continued my degree in radiography and then ended up working in Radiography for the next ten years.

Throughout my entire career I’d always thought about doing something different. Changing jobs, studying again, creating the life I knew I was meant to be living. But I was afraid. What if I left radiography to find I was still not fulfilled? What if I studied again, and it wasn’t for me?

I now know that fear was showing up for me left right and centre, and I was letting it take control of my life. I let it keep my in a career I wasn’t passionate about, doing work that didn’t light me up.

Then, when I moved back from living in London in 2018, I decided it was time to reconnect to my true self. Time to start listening to my intuition, and to dive deep into self-development to work out what my passion in life really was.

This was exciting, but also incredibly scary.

If I’ve learnt anything over the past three years, it’s that if it scares you, it’s incredibly important to you. So face your fear head on. Learn to make friends with it, and move through it, because the end result is so, so worth it.

I started my journey back to my Self. It wasn’t an easy feat, and to this day it is still ongoing. But I am so grateful to finally have got to the stage where I was ready to make a change. I was ready to take action. I was ready to move through my fears.

So how did I do it?

It’s quite a process, and to be honest I wish I knew about Life Coaching when I started. As the support of a coach would have made my journey much quicker, and more powerful. Having someone there for you, to hold space and remove all judgement and expectations is a beautiful thing.

Three main things I did where:

+ Filled my mind with personal development books, podcasts and blogs. I stopped watching trashy TV, and started listening to those who inspired me to grow and evolve. I began with podcasts, and I love them to this day. I listened to health, mindset and wellness related podcasts. I was eager to learn how to be the best version of myself, inside and out.

+ Started to take better care of myself. I’ve always had a tumultuous relationship with myself. I often wanted to be prettier, skinnier, smarter, and more outgoing. I’ve been in some rather toxic relationships over the years, and as a result I really lost sight of who I was. I started to work on me. Loving me, connecting to me, and being happy in my own company. This was a long process. But I now can say hand on my heart, that I love myself. I love my body. I love who I am as a person. I have my good and bad days, but overall, my relationship with myself has soared.

+ I started to journal. Journaling is a powerful tool, and something that I encourage my clients to do if it feels good for them. It is a powerful way to reconnect to yourself, to work out what it is you’re really passionate about, and to work out how you want to spend your time and your energy. It can be overwhelming at first, and it can dig up some old ‘stuff’ that you’ve not dealt with. But the process of digging it up, and working through it, and releasing it makes space for the new. It makes space for you to connect to you. It is a beautiful process.

It took me almost two years on my journey back to my Self to find my calling life. In early 2020 I came across Health Coaching, and then Life Coaching. Both of these areas excited me immensely. To be able to support humans to go through the same process I’d just be through myself ignited the fire deep within my belly.

I knew I’d found my passion. I’d found my way to serve the world.

I enrolled to study with the Beautiful You Life Coaching Academy in 2020, and I’ve never looked back. Since making the decision to become a Life Coach, I’ve continued to invest in myself and my growth.

I’ve also found my love for Yoga and meditation, and I will be beginning to teach Yoga very soon!

So, if you feel like you’re not quite where you want to in life, it’s okay. It’s never to late to start working on yourself, and I promise you that with time, energy and action you will reconnect to your Self and find you passion in life.
